it's not disability but ability that counts may we all live a long and great life

Hello my name is Glen McMillan, Google expert, my website http://searchengineoptimization.co.nz/index.htm

We have heard John Key the New Zealand Prime Minster saying that if people on the invalids benefit can work then they should work and I agree. In my case there is no real assistance to help me get work; People would love to use my service, if only they knew I was here. I really need to be able to communicate with them.

I have a major disability and have had this disability from age 10 following a bicycle accident.  In1996 the Medical appeal board declared me as 85% disabled

The point of this letter and attached I-want-to-work-Video. is to inform, because of my disability I face many obstacles in life.

I am on an invalids benefit but do not want to be, for several years I have run my own little business from an office behind my home.

I make very little money and normally run at a small loss, this is why I still need a benefit.

Because I have been helped by many good friends, I now have a really nice well presented office built behind the house where I live.
The distance between house and office is about forty metres.

I have had other business successes.
My story can be viewed at Success video youtube.com/watch

My disability including my walk can be clearly seen in the video My walking video , walking is only a small part for me; my main disability is my breathing and importantly my voice.

My voice is by far the biggest barrier to being able to market myself, I have tried many things including “after five events seminars “business” meet and greet”.

Despite my disability I have attended many functions of this sort. Unfortunately these do not work for me, my inability to market is really voice related.
Simply put if people can not hear me I can not tell them about my skills.

My skills.

I have spent most of my working life as an electronic technician ~ repairing electronics. I have worked for Tisco and Plessey business systems. In the early 90’s I was one of the first people in New Zealand to set up and start a telephone repair business. Click on the link to hear about this business TVNZ Success video youtube.com/watch

When we started Auckland Telephone Services, a good cordless phone sold for $400 .This business lasted years, but with cordless phones now under $100 this business by itself is no longer viable.

We now repair Playstation, but with no money to advertise, the marketing for Playstation repairs has been “online”

Playstation repairs, does not earn enough by itself to support the business overheads.

My ability to learn is great.

Not much work now for an electronic technician. The Playstation business will slow as prices of new playstation's drop.

Because I am an advance planner, I have been teaching myself to become a Google expert in Search Engine Optimisation. I receive USA based emails every day telling me about Google changes and updates, so much still to be learnt. I love working organically within website coding as well as website design.

My SEO knowledge is very up to date

There are so many website designers, but very few Seo Professionals like myself. It is one thing to make a website, but a different matter altogether to be able to optimise a website.

I am able to do both.

According to a recent MYOB survey only 30% of New Zealand businesses have a website and those that do outperform businesses without a website

Those that want to be found online also want to be front page on Google; I can help with both of these requirements. I am all set up ready and willing to work, but my disability and my voice is holding me back.

Website's that I own and have on page 1 off Google include “~ newzealandcafes.com ~ newzealandbeaches.co.nz and others”.

I have no family living in Auckland that can help, it is so very frustrating knowing I have these skills to offer and also the ability to work and earn good money, but really if I hobble in your door and then spoke; most people would not buy anything off me, simply because I am different.

I really could earn a living optimising website's. In this trade I do not have a lot of competitors. I can do this I can get off the benefit, but I need help to let people know I am here

Fact is 90% of website's currently online in NZ have little or no optimisation.

The reason it is impractical for me to go to a job, is because no matter where I worked I would still have to get there.

I do drive but part of my disability is breathing, also because my injuries are “head injury” related, I suffer a condition known as “gate freeze”.
Essentially if I get cold, my movement can seize, leaving me unable to keep moving, not a good thing when trying to cross busy roads.

I also have had windpipe reconstruction and have narrowed airways, if I get wet or cold I get sick.

By creating my own working environment and only having to walk 40 metres to work, I have done my best to get work

We have heard John Key the New Zealand Prime Minster saying that if people on the invalids benefit can work then they should work and I agree. In my case there is no real assistance to help me get work; People would love to use my service, if only they knew I was here. I really need to be able to communicate with them.

Future opportunities

I firmly believe that if I can find a way to let people know I am here and all set up ready for work. The work for me is out there I am just waiting to be found, I have seen the recent stories on TV about invalids beneficiaries that are unable to work and I feel for these people.

But me I do want to work I believe I can and I have the skills. My office is outfitted with a total of 4 desks and a possibility of hiring up to five staff if work was to become available.

We have network capability up to eight computers and the possibility to expand, I did succeed in the early 1990s and employed three disabled people including myself.

In my current location there is really not enough room or money to have a fully outfitted mobility toilet. But I have devoted a lot of time to help people and would look at disabled people as potential employees

In an ideal world I would be put in contact with other like minded people, I do not get out a lot and have real problems being heard. I have never belonged to any disabled support groups, there must be people out there that wound complement my skills and would enjoy the chance to move forward in life.
