    Glen beats the Benefit

New Lynn's Glen McMillan is determined to get himself and four others off benefits and into full time work.

He and his business partner, paraplegic Wayne Chapman, have set up Auckland Telephone Services in a Puriri Street warehouse, where he will train the other beneficiaries in telephone repair work.

Glen has been on an invalids benefit since an horrific push-bike crash as a youngster. After four years in hospital, including 32 days in a coma, he was left with speech and walking difficulties and excruciating back pain.

But he pressed on and obtained qualifications in electronics.

Then he started Auckland Telephone Services in partnership with Wayne.  Business soon began to pick up and , with the help of a $10,000 grant from Willing  & Able, Glen has decided to expand.
